The Story Behind the Shoot
In July 2025, I sat down with the artist Bara to facilitate a conversation that had been five years in the making. As a Director, my role was to bridge the gap between his spoken testimony and the physical art he was creating—a process of using long-form dialogue to uncover the 'individual truths' hidden within personal loss.
We explored a visual narrative where canvas met sack and acrylic met memory. By using local 'Buhu' sacks as the foundation for his work, Bara transformed a common, everyday material into a symbolic shrine for his late mother, Ajayi. This project is a testament to the power of art as a tool for mourning and remembrance; it is where the act of painting becomes an act of stitching grief into the very fabric of our shared reality.
